Song of the Mountains is a unique television series which has been airing on PBS since 2005. This concert series showcases the best in bluegrass, old time, Celtic and Americana music from the heart of the region where it all began. Concerts are taped at the beautiful Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia and offered nationally to all PBS affiliates.

This DVD showcases some of the artists who performed on the concert series’ first season. The diversity of performers compliments the rich mix of musical styles. There are old-school bands and veteran musicians with decades of experience, teen sensations with showmanship beyond their years, groups with formal training, and those who learned from playing with their families.

In 2005, Song of the Mountains received the prestigious Telly Award, an honor recognizing excellence in local, regional, and cable television, and video/film production. More than 12,000 entries were received from fifty states and five continents.

Song of the Mountains grew from one PBS outlet at the beginning of production in 2005 to 163 outlets at the end of its second season.
