Bluegrass Concert Presented August 1st in Marion, Virginia featuring Karl Shiflett and His Big Country Show
Song of the Mountains presents another great concert at the Lincoln Theatre in Marion, Virginia on Saturday, August 1st at 7:00 pm. Headlining the show will be Karl Shiflett and his Big Country Show.
Staying true to original bluegrass roots is the Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show,  a five-piece acoustic country group hailing from Texas . The group masterfully blends vintage country music with bluegrass to capture a sprit and feeling of by gone days. They are best known for their fast paced and highly entertaining “Retro” stage show.

The Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show officially started in 1993 but did not gain national recognition until 1999 when they signed with Rebel Records becoming a household name within the genre literally overnight. Their debut release went to the top of the charts and featured their signature song “Where the smoke goes up (and the money goes down)”. The group has recorded two additional projects on the same label with numerous original compositions seeing similar chart success including “It’s fall again,Cold cold love” andWorries on my mind to name a few.

Also on the show will be Kopper Kanyon, Kickin Grass and the Scott County Boys.

Made up of Keith Pyrtle, Vince Bullins, Duane Sutphin and Charlie Chaney. Kopper Kanyon is a versatile group of talented musicians known for fast picking, sweet harmonies and tear-jerking ballads. Keith Pyrtle and Vince Bullins, longtime friends, had played together in many bands and wanted a new sound in bluegrass, sweet harmonies put together with an infectious driving force. Thus they began their search for the musicians that could help create the sound they were looking for. Here is the result....Kopper Kanyon.

The Kickin Grass Band takes the stage, and suddenly you’re captivated by pure, strong voices telling true-to-life stories spiced with innovative bluegrass instrumentation. You fall in love with the rootsy, Americana style, and can’t wait for more. Fortunately, their third release, simply titled The Kickin Grass Band, displays all the chops, emotion and effusive energy of the band’s live show.

The Scott County Boys have been performing together since 1995.  Kenneth Davis plays rhythm guitar and does the lead singing.  Kenneth was formerly with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys.  Steve Edwards plays fiddle.  He was formerly with Appalachian Trail and Papa Joe Smiddy’s Reedy Creek Band.  David Edwards sings baritone and bass for the group, and he plays the upright bass.  David has played with Papa Joe Smiddy, Driving Time, and the Kingsport Symphony.  Mitchell Vandyke plays banjo; he’s also performed with the Clinch Mountain Boys
